THREE DISCIPLINES OF WRESTLING

Folkstyle

Folkstyle is a style of wrestling practiced in the United States.  Folkstyle allows the use of the wrestler's or his opponent's legs in offense and defense. It has had so many influences from the wide variety of folk wrestling styles brought into the country that it has become distinctly American.

Freestyle

Freestyle is a style of wrestling that is practiced throughout the world. Like Folkstyle, you are allowed the use of the wrestler's or the opponent's legs in offense and defense. Freestyle wrestling brings together traditional wrestling, judo, and sambo techniques.

Greco-Roman

Greco-Roman is a style of wrestling that is practiced worldwide. With the restricted rule set, it results in an emphasis on throws, because a wrestler cannot use trips to take an opponent to the ground, or avoid throws by hooking or grabbing the opponent's leg.
